Sonia Fredericks, SLT, is a speech-language pathologist in Guyana who was trained as a Rehabilitation Assistant under the Ministry of Health. She worked in the Speech and Language Therapy Department for eight years as an assistant, where she developed her passion for the field.
In 2014, Guyana’s sole university joined the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and developed the country’s first bachelor’s degree program in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Ms. Fredericks was part of the first cohort to graduate from the program and continues to serve under the Ministry of Health, Disability and Rehabilitation Services.
She loves her job and currently finds her passion in working with children with autism and individuals with feeding and swallowing disorders.
