Corinne's Course Picks: Top 5 Speech Therapy PD Courses of 2025

This was a year of great content on Speech Therapy PD! They asked me to reflect on my top 5 courses that helped me build my knowledge and skills. It was hard to choose, but these 5 helped build my confidence and toolbox in a stand-out way.

1. The Power of Gesture in Language Development

Garrett Oyama, MS, CCC-SLP and Dr. Susan Goldin-Meadow, PhD | 0.1 ASHA CEUs

This episode took me to a whole new understanding of gestural symbology. I was rapt about the differences between sign language, home sign, co-speech gestures, and silent gestures. If you listen to one podcast episode from 2025, this should be it.

2. Assessment of Play Skills in Early Intervention

Janine Benner, MA, CCC-SLP, BCS-CL | 0.2 ASHA CEUs

If you are working in early intervention or preschools, this is the course to make sure you have a solid plan for play assessment. This is a great PD if you need help getting organized, writing goals, and approaching parent involvement with sensitivity. Janine also provides helpful printable you can use right away.

3. EPIC Pediatric Case Studies: Childhood Apraxia of Speech

Trina Becker, MS, CCC-SLP and Beth Bergstrom, MS, CCC-SLP | 0.1 ASHA CEUs

CAS is an area I'm not particularly confident about, which is why this course was on my list for 2025! Trina and Beth presented enthusiastically and scaffolded information effectively. I really enjoyed learning about PRISM (Fish, 2011) and the Hierarchy of Word Shape Difficulty (Velleman, 2003). Finally, the Client Profile worksheet they provided is something I think you'll want in your assessment toolbox. You can find this resource, as well as others from the presentation, on their website at bbboutiqueslp.com.

4. Communication Differences in Young Children with ASD

Dr. Nichole Mulvey, PhD, CCC-SLP | 0.2 ASHA CEUs

It doesn't surprise me that this course was one of Speech Therapy PD's highest-rated offerings of the year. Dr. Mulvey provides solid education about this sought-after topic. One idea I took from this course was an expansion of my understanding of the function of eye contact as a method to imitate and terminate an interaction. Finally, I was grateful for her overview of elements of ADOS-2 (and feeling inspired together training now).

5. Brain-Based Language Networks and Individual Differences

Garrett Oyama, MS, CCC-SLP and Dr. Evelina (Ev) Fedorenko, PhD | 0.1 ASHA CEUs

This episode had me furiously taking notes. Dr. Fedorenko's explanation of processing musical and speech input was fantastic; she provided high-level information with enthusiasm. I learned so much related to my two areas of passion and a planing to listen to it at least two more times to make sure I don't forget a single idea!
