  • Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) must complete 12 CE hours every two years.

All CE hours can be obtained online, although California requires that no more than 50% of SLP CE hours to be “Self Study,” meaning a course where instruction and participation are not simultaneous.  

  • For example, SLPs can complete up to 12 of their 24 required CE hours as self study in California.
  • Live and Interactive Courses from Speech Therapy would NOT be counted as self study.
  • On-Demand Courses would be counted as self study.  
  • Additionally, no more than 25% of SLP CE hours can be Indirect patient/client care courses covering pragmatic aspects of SLP (including legal or ethical issues, consultation, record-keeping, office management, managed care issues, or research obligations)
