Luis Riquelme

Dr. Luis Riquelme, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, F-ASHA, is Consulting Director of Rehabilitation & Speech-Language Pathology at Maimonides Health, Associate Professor at Universidad Católica del Uruguay, and Adjunct Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University. He is internationally recognized for his work in dysphagia and communication sciences. Dr. Riquelme’s current research explores changes in swallow physiology in dementia and pill swallowing, as well as the cultural dimensions of dysphagia. He has presented his work both nationally and internationally and has contributed extensively to the field through publications and leadership. He serves as Co-Chair of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) and is a member of ASHA’s Healthcare Economics Committee. Dr. Riquelme is a recipient of ASHA Honors and is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
