Dr. Julia Yi is an Assistant Professor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions’ Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in Boston, MA. She teaches courses in the MS SLP program on developmental language and literacy, evidence-based practice, and teaching English learners. Her research broadly focuses on adolescent language and literacy. Her research is guided by more than a decade of experience as a speech-language pathologist prior to earning her PhD, during which she worked extensively with children and adolescents in schools in urban communities, including KIPP NYC in New York City and districts in Los Angeles, and in her literacy-focused private practice. She earned her PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences with a focus on literacy from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2022. She holds her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology from Teachers College, Columbia University, and New York University, respectively. Dr. Julia Yi co-teaches a summer course, Teaching Language & Literacy to English Learners, over Zoom, which is open to practicing SLPs and educators as part of the MGH IHP’s Language & Literacy Certificate of Advanced Study.
