Franklin W. Bender, PhD, CCC-SLP, has been an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist for 27 years. Dr. Bender holds a graduate degree from Portland State University in Speech and Hearing Sciences and a PhD in the
Educational Methodology, Policy, and Leadership from the University of Oregon. Dr. Bender has
worked in K-12 education as an adjunct faculty member as an assistant clinical professor and has
served as a national consultant to state departments of education and school districts around the
country on best practices and research-based approaches to evaluating and serving culturally and linguistically diverse students who are being considered for special education services. Dr. Bender’s clinical and research interests include Dynamic assessment, evaluating culturally and linguistically diverse children for special education services, and children and adolescents who struggle with social communication. Dr. Bender has been an active participant at both the state and national levels in speech-language pathology and served as the president of the Oregon Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2004.
