M. en L
Ofelia González, M. en L, is a speech-language pathologist (SLP) in Mexico. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of the Americas in Mexico City and a master’s degree in linguistics from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, where she is currently a student in the PhD Linguistics Program. Her master’s dissertation was a study of the relationship between perception and lexical development in children with cochlear implants. Her current research focuses on emotional prosody perception in cochlear implant users. Over the last 16 years, she has acquired extensive experience working throughout Mexico in various non-governmental institutions and in private practice. She has conducted diagnosis and treatment of receptive and expressive language disorders, aural rehabilitation, articulation, oral-motor functioning disorders, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and pragmatic language disorders—mainly in children, but also in adults. Currently, she is an auditory-verbal therapist and clinical program coordinator at a non-governmental organization called Ándale para Oír, Padres de Niños Sordos A.C., in Querétaro, Mexico. She has a special interest in working with children with hearing impairments, using an intervention approach focused on achieving the best outcomes for each individual. She emphasizes making the most appropriate communication decisions—whether oral or sign language—based on each child’s unique needs. Ofelia has also worked as a university professor in communication disorders at Instituto José David A.C. and Universidad del Valle de México. She is a frequent presenter at workshops for parents, professionals, and teachers related to language development in her community.
