Phyllis Scott is a nationally certified Speech-Language Pathologist with over 32 years of experience as an SLP and champion for individuals with disabilities. Phyllis provided speech-language therapy for 16 years for students with a full range of disabilities and severity levels. She served the past 16 years at the Louisiana Department of Education providing coordination, supervision, monitoring, and complaint management for programs involving students with disabilities.
Her advanced expertise includes Section 504 and Disability Rights, Child Find, Literacy and Dyslexia, Positive Behavior Supports, and Cultural Diversity. Phyllis’s contributions in the field include Louisiana’s Speech and Language Support for All (SALSA) Initiative, SLP Leadership Cadre Academy, institutions of higher education and legislative projects, membership in professional organizations, and selection to state and national committees. She has served on the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s (ASHA) SLP School Issues Advisory Board, ASHA School Finance Committee. She is a participant in the State Education Agencies Communication Disabilities Council. She has presented at several state and national conferences and published for the ASHA Leader.
Phyllis is near completion of Walden University’s PhD program in Social Psychology where she has earned a Masters of Philosophy.
Her goal is to align her work as an SLP and social psychologist to promote social change through her company Thrival Communications Plus by working with employers, agencies, providers and families to provide training and support geared toward improving the lives of for individuals who struggle.
