Dorothy Bohntinsky, MA, CCC-SLP, has provided speech and language therapy to adults and children in a wide variety of settings since 1976. Worthy worked as the Director of Speech Pathology and Audiology at Alameda County Medical Center for over 20 years. After an early retirement in 2002, she expanded to serving clients in their homes through home health and home rehabilitation programs. Since 2002, she has been the on-call SLP at a hospital that specializes in respiratory failure. Dorothy is the author of the theory of Nonverbal Language Integration. She earned a D.Min. and was ordained as an Interfaith minister in order to better understand universal relationships between loss and resilience. This passion led to the creation of a new theory of how to use specific nonverbal language behaviors to activate the vagus nerve for reducing stress and enhancing rapport. The vagus nerve pathways promote safe social interpersonal communication. This is important for maintaining states of learning that are necessary for successful outcomes.
