Raymond D. Kent, Ph.D., is a well-known, highly respected researcher within the field of speech-language pathology, and is a Professor Emeritus of Communicative Disorders at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Kent was born in Red Lodge, Montana, and received his BA degree from the University of Montana and then earned his MA and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Iowa in 1969 and 1970. He then did postdoctoral work in the Research Laboratory of Electronics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His primary research interests include theories of speech production, speech development in infants and young children, neurogenic speech disorders in children and adults, and procedures to assess speech intelligibility and quality. In addition to more than 180 journal articles, book chapters, and reviews, he has authored or edited at least nine major books and has been an editor of several journals, including the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research and Clinical Linguistics and Phonetics. In addition, Dr. Kent has presented lectures and workshops throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. In 1994, Dr. Kent received the Honors Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and in 1995 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Montreal.
