Dr. Holly Storkel is a professor and researcher at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. She joined the Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and Disorders Department in 2001. Dr. Storkel conducts efficacy, effectiveness, and implementation science research. Her early research focused on determining why some children learn sounds and words of their native language easily while others struggle. Her current research, however, seeks to evaluate and develop treatment approaches to accelerate sound and word learning in children with speech sound disorder and/or developmental language disorder. Dr. Storkel endeavors to bring best practice approaches to real-world clinical and community settings. Overall, her desire is to help children learn words and sounds to better succeed in school and life. Her work has been supported by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NDCD). She was named a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2014.
