Intelligibility refers to how well a listener can understand a speaker's message. It is influenced by articulation accuracy, rate, vocal quality, and listener familiarity. Reduced intelligibility is common in many speech disorders, such as dysarthria or phonological disorder. SLPs measure and improve intelligibility to increase functional communication effectiveness.
