Resonance

Resonance

Overview:

Resonance refers to the amplification and modification of sound vibrations in the vocal tract, particularly in the oral and nasal cavities. Abnormal resonance, such as hypernasality or hyponasality, can significantly affect speech intelligibility. SLPs assess resonance to determine whether structural or functional deficits are contributing to the voice quality. Management may include behavioral speech therapy or surgical consultation depending on the etiology. Clear and natural resonance is fundamental to speech quality.
