Phonation

Phonation

Overview:

Phonation is the process of producing vocal sound by the vibration of the vocal folds within the larynx. It is essential for voiced speech sounds and vocal quality. SLPs evaluate phonation to diagnose voice disorders, which may involve pitch, loudness, or quality abnormalities. Therapy may focus on exercises to improve vocal fold function and coordination. Healthy phonation is critical for clear and effective verbal communication.
