Phonetics

Phonetics

Overview:

Phonetics is the scientific study of speech sounds, including their production, acoustic properties, and perception. SLPs utilize phonetic knowledge to assess and treat speech sound disorders. Phonetic transcription allows clinicians to document speech accurately and plan appropriate interventions. Understanding phonetics aids in distinguishing between normal variations and disordered speech patterns. It is fundamental in the diagnosis and remediation of articulation and phonological disorders.
