Peak Cough Flow: Predicting Aspiration Risk during Clinical Swallow Evaluations

Despite suboptimal reliability, cough is often assessed subjectively during the clinical swallow evaluation (CSE). Objective measures of cough strength are readily available and have been shown to be predictive of aspiration, aspiration pneumonia, and dysphagia severity. This course will introduce Peak Cough Flow as an objective measure of cough and airway protection during the CSE.
