This course explores how palliative care principles can guide dysphagia assessment and management, with an emphasis on patient autonomy, caregiver needs, and shared decision-making. Caitlin and Christine will address common challenges involving aspiration risk, swallowing recommendations, and changing goals of care as patients and families navigate the progression of serious illness.
Through practical communication strategies and person-centered approaches, you'll learn how to better understand caregiver concerns, navigate differing perspectives, and involve families in meaningful care decisions. The course will help you develop realistic recommendations that respect patient priorities while recognizing the essential role caregivers play in supporting comfort, dignity, and quality of life.
