Angie Neal, MS, CCC-SLP, provides a practical review of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the federal requirements that guide speech-language pathology services in schools. This course examines the legal foundations of eligibility for special education services, including the three prongs of eligibility, adverse educational impact, and the assessment requirements outlined in federal regulations.
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how IDEA applies to everyday clinical decision-making and learn strategies for making legally sound eligibility determinations. The course also addresses how consistent application of IDEA requirements can help reduce inappropriate referrals, support compliance, and better manage school-based caseloads while ensuring students receive services that meet federal standards.
