Health literacy is the ability to understand a medical diagnosis and make informed decisions regarding one’s overall health. Social determinants of health (SDOH) encompass 5 domains and impact one’s ability to understand overall health. As SLPs and AuDs, we are entrusted to provide quality care to patients with varying ethnicities, races, backgrounds, and socioeconomic statuses across the lifespan. This course focuses on understanding health literacy as it relates to our practice and advocacy efforts.
