This course will define the irritable larynx and illustrate the commonality in evaluating cough and ILO/VCD/PVFM. In general, we must determine if the irritation in the throat, that is causing the symptoms, is being triggered by reflux, sensory nerve irritation or both by completing a careful inventory of triggers. Patient education during this process is crucial as patients have often been seen by multiple specialists and prescribed lots of medication with little relief. This course will discuss vocal hygiene, breath control strategies, manual therapy, voice therapy(if indicated), and how to assist the physician with best practices for medication management. Interprofessional collaboration with various medical specialists will be explored.
