Standardized tests only tell part of the story in aphasia, often missing how patients communicate in real-life situations. In this course, Brielle C. Stark, PhD, SLP, and Manaswita Dutta, PhD, CCC-SLP, introduce discourse-based approaches for assessing and treating aphasia, focusing on language beyond single words or short phrases to better capture functional communication.
Participants will explore spoken discourse tasks such as storytelling and picture description, as well as practical methods for analyzing key components of language performance. The course also reviews key developments in discourse research and how they have shaped its transition into everyday clinical practice.
