Stark, PhD, SLP, reviews the core symptoms and language profiles associated with the major aphasia syndromes, helping participants differentiate aphasia types based on patterns of fluency, comprehension, repetition, naming, and functional communication.
Participants will also examine the clinical usefulness and limitations of traditional aphasia classification systems for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning. Building on this foundation, the course explores how contemporary cognitive and network-based models of language offer a more nuanced understanding of aphasia, equipping SLPs to apply classification thoughtfully while recognizing the complexity and variability of language impairment.
