Designed for clinicians working across medical and rehabilitation settings, the conference explores practical, evidence-based approaches to evaluating and supporting connected speech, functional communication, and participation outcomes. Presenters will discuss clinically feasible tools and frameworks that help SLPs analyze discourse in meaningful ways while balancing the realities of busy practice settings.
Special attention will be given to bilingual and multilingual aphasia care, including the linguistic and cultural factors that influence assessment, intervention, and interpretation of communication performance. Attendees will examine cross-linguistic and cross-cultural considerations that can strengthen clinical decision-making and improve support for diverse patient populations.
Participants will also gain practical knowledge of discourse analysis methods and intervention approaches, including core lexicon analysis, the Auditory-Perceptual Rating of Connected Speech in Aphasia (APROCSA), and ECoLoGiC Treatment (ECoLoGiC-Tx), a conversation-level intervention designed to improve connected speech across aphasia severities.
Through clinical examples, implementation strategies, and ready-to-use resources, attendees will leave with practical tools to evaluate discourse, set functional communication goals, support meaningful participation, and help adults with aphasia communicate with greater confidence in everyday interactions.
