Post-concussion syndrome is a disorder that impacts daily life tasks and quality of life. Research shows more than 3 million cases occur annually in the United States. This course discusses the symptoms, the treatments available, and how SLPs play a role in recovery. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is considered rare, with less than 20,000 cases per year. However, since it is only diagnosed post-mortem, actual numbers are hard to define. CTE research identifies four stages of the disease, with probable links to dementia. A review of the research with examples of identified cases is included in this course.
