When you think of Parkinson’s Disease, most people picture Michael J. Fox or Mohammad Ali, but what does Parkinson’s Disease or Parkinsonism look like in the general population? In this episode, Renee is joined by Amy Larocca, MS, CCC-SLP, who works primarily with People with Parkinson’s (PwP) and other neurological disorders. They will discuss how Parkinson’s disease treatment differs from other neurologic etiologies. Join us for a collaborative discussion regarding resources and community support for PwP and their loved ones.

Renee Garrett is a native of Hampton Roads, VA. She graduated with her Bachelors and her Masters, both from Old Dominion University. She worked in a variety of medical settings, providing care for adults across the lifespan with dysphagia and a variety of communication and cognitive disorders. Renee has a special interest in cognitive retraining post-TBI. She holds certification as a certified brain injury specialist from the Brain Injury Association of America and is active in educating families, friends, and patients about dysphagia, communication, and cognitive disorders. She has served the Speech-Language-Hearing Association of Virginia in several roles, including president. She is the secretary for the Communication Disorders Foundation of Virginia. Renee is the recipient of the 2023 Darden Fellow award from Old Dominion University.

Amy Larocca, MA, CCC-SLP is the owner and lead Speech-Language Pathologist at Polaris Speech & Neurological Rehabilitation, a hybrid private practice in Northeast Ohio. She brings 17 years of clinical and teaching experience to her patients and specializes in evaluating and treating patients with Parkinson's and other neurological diseases. She is trained in SPEAK OUT!®, Lee Silverman Voice Therapy, McNeil Dysphagia Therapy Program, Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy and Manual Therapy for the SLP. She holds a Parkinson Foundation Team Training certification. Amy is on the Board of the Ohio Parkinson's Foundation Northeast Region, Contracts to provide classes at InMotion and is also the Chair of the planning Committee for the Parkinson Foundation Cleveland Moving Day.
