In this course, Kate Lamb, M.S., CCC-SLP, guides speech-language pathologists through the administration and interpretation of oral-facial exams to improve therapy outcomes. Kate helps make sense of structural findings by not only showing SLPs what to look for but also what they are looking at when conducting exams. She further explains how to connect structural findings with oral functions such as speaking and swallowing. Common findings such as ankyloglossia, airway obstruction and malocclusion are discussed in depth. Strategies for making appropriate and ethical medical and dental referrals will also be included, with specific suggestions for navigating referrals in the schools.
