For decades, the field of speech-language pathology has characterized autistic communicators as ‘disordered;’ diagnostic categories identify ‘deficits’ across communication domains. Now, there is a sizable body of research to demonstrate that autistic communication, while sometimes dramatically different from neurotypical norms, is not disordered. This session will provide a general overview of autistic communication and insights on how to support effective cross-neurotype.
