Chronic pain profoundly impacts the quality of life for millions of individuals in America and inadequate care has contributed to a larger burden on society and healthcare costs. Traditional pain management from a biomedical treatment model primarily focuses on interventions, medication management, and short bouts of physical therapy. Pain neurosciences have allowed us to better understand why unrelenting pain may persist in a person’s life despite conventional treatments and sometimes even when the injured tissue has healed. This course helps the learner better understand the implications of incomplete persistent pain care versus pursuing pain care by leveraging modern neurosciences under a biopsychosocial spiritual model which takes the whole person into account
