This course explores the role of Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) in helping parent(s) advocate for their child’s needs in the IEP meeting, focusing on collaboration with school team members. Topics include elements that make a good IEP meeting, preparing parent(s) for the IEP meeting, fostering effective teamwork, negotiating with the school team, managing conflict, and agreeing to disagree. You’ll also learn how to help parent(s) interpret standardized testing and evaluation reports to understand better how the scores relate to their child’s needs. Practical examples will enhance your skills in teaching parent(s) to navigate the IEP process and foster effective teamwork.
