This course will review approaches to developing and facilitating play skills in early intervention speech-language pathology services. The presenter will review evidence-based approaches to developing and facilitating play skills in children with various diagnoses using play-based, culturally responsive, neurodiverse-affirming, parent-mediated approaches. The presenter will discuss evidence-based strategies and steps in providing culturally responsive service and methods for developing developmentally appropriate, strength-based, culturally responsive, and neurodiverse-affirming goals. Activity ideas for various settings and materials will be reviewed. The presenter will review the benefits and steps of using a parent coaching model in play-based treatment. Case examples will be provided, and resources for clinicians will be shared.
