This course meets ASHA's DEI PD requirement.
Day 1 of the conference will explore topics on what it means to be culturally and linguistically responsive in our practice. Part 1 will focus on the preparation required of speech, language, and hearing scholars, educators, and clinicians to engage in culturally responsive practices, address the definition of cultural responsiveness, and discuss the need for new concepts and conceptual frameworks. Case studies of dual language learners with communication differences will be explored to determine the language of intervention and appropriate intervention targets. Designing an intervention plan that will promote transfer between a child’s languages will be considered. The ASHA Code of Ethics to help guide decision-making will be discussed.
