Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a neurological speech sound disorder in which core impairment is in planning and/or programming movement sequences resulting in errors in speech sound production and prosody (ASHA, 2007). Because it is neurological, evaluation and treatment techniques that are used for articulation and phonological processes are less effective for identifying and remediation. Using syllable shapes and multisensory cues is the key to effective remediation! This course will provide how to evaluate CAS and specific therapeutic strategies for more intelligible speech.
