In this thought-provoking episode, Pamela Rowe joins Renee to explore the often-overlooked role of speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in supporting individuals involved with the justice system. With communication disorders disproportionately represented among incarcerated populations, SLPs are uniquely positioned to reduce recidivism by addressing language, literacy, cognitive-communication, and social communication differences. We will examine how targeted intervention, interprofessional collaboration, and advocacy can empower individuals to succeed in education, employment, and community reintegration. This episode sheds light on how our clinical expertise can drive equity and change lives.
