Conducting an efficacious alternative & augmentative communication (AAC) assessment is vital to supporting our students with complex communication needs (CNN). For students who are culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD), there are unique considerations throughout the assessment process. This presentation will provide evidence-based guidelines for providing a culturally responsive AAC assessment. Each step of the assessment process will be crafted within a cultural lens, from reframing the SETT framework to interviewing and observation strategies. Additionally, specific resources and AAC tools will be highlighted to provide attendees with practical guidance for feature-matching AAC systems to meet diverse linguistic needs.
