Did you know that English is the most spoken language in the world, by native and non-native speakers, and there are over 160 dialects? Pronunciation is a key part of language learning. Many English language learners want to learn ways to “reduce” their accent or learn to sound native. Speaking With an American Accent: A Guide to General American English Pronunciation is an easy-to-follow guide to teaching and producing the General American English dialect. This course provides an overview of accent modification (AM), discusses common targets of AM, and describes techniques to address client goals. This course is designed for SLPs who are interested in learning about accent modification and providing services. It’s perfect for those just starting out in this area or those wanting new ideas for their clients. Speaking With an American Accent includes numerous practical activities for accent modification, from the sound level to conversation, an informal assessment, reference charts, and stimuli for each target area. A companion website presents the worksheets in a downloadable format.
