In this course, Sarah presented insights from her research, study and experience in connecting language skills with areas of reading instruction. She believes one can have language without literacy, but not literacy without language. She shared strategies for phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary and fluency.

Char Boshart is a speech-language pathologist, author, seminar presenter, and president and co-founder of Speech Dynamics, Inc. She graduated with her Master’s degree from Western Michigan University under the extraordinary tutelage of Dr. Charles Van Riper, the “father” of articulation therapy during the final years of his illustrious career. Char began her career in the public schools in the early 70’s with a caseload of over 110 children. Since then, she has worked many years in the public schools, developed and ran her own private practice, and, for seven years was an Assistant Professor and Department Chair of the Speech Pathology and Audiology Department at Loma Linda University in southern California. Her interest in creating effective therapy techniques has evolved into the development of several practical articulation publications, videos (articulation and language), and articles.

Sarah James is an experienced speech-language pathologist, seminar leader and consultant. Working in urban, suburban and rural public schools, Sarah’s area of specialty is the relationship between speech-language skills and academic development and how cutting-edge technology can enhance speech-language programs. She has wide-ranging experience helping SLPs make connections between communication skills, classroom expectations, curriculum targets, and state standards. Sarah has been called on as a consultant for school districts around the country where she has offered speech-language pathologists practical and effective strategies for therapy. Sarah has served as president of her state’s speech-language hearing association and in 2010 they awarded her the Honors of the Association.
