In this course, Dr. Page assuages listener’s fears of Augmentative and Alternative Communication. Did you know that AAC is more than pictures and a lamination machine and is in fact driven by core vocabulary with a splash of fringe vocabulary? Or did you know that when an SLP utilizes AAC with a patient, we are teaching them how to say what they want to say, not what we want them to say? If you are feeling overwhelmed, this is the course for you. One of Dr. Page’s gifts is her ability to communicate these attributes of AAC with grace and compassion, such that everyone not only understands how to use AAC, but starts to embrace it on a day-to-day basis with their patients.

Michelle Dawson, MS, CCC-SLP, CLC, BCS-S, serves as the Director of Clinical Education and Assistant Professor with James Madison University. Additionally, she is the acclaimed host of “First Bite: Fed, Fun, Functional” a weekly Speech Therapy Podcast that addresses “all thangs” Pediatric Speech Therapy, and is presented by SpeechTherapyPD.com. Michelle authored, "Chasing the Swallow: Truth, Science, and Hope for Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing Disorders". She is an accomplished lecturer; traveling across the nation delivering courses on best practices for the evaluation and treatment of the medically complex infant, toddlers, and children with respect to their pediatric oropharyngeal dysphagia, pediatric feeding disorder, as well as language acquisition within the framework of Early Intervention. She has served as the Treasurer for the Council of State Association Presidents (CSAP), is a Past President of the South Carolina Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (SCSHA), a graduate of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Leadership Development Program (ASHA LDP), a recipient of the Pediatric Feeding Disorder Awareness Champion from Feeding Matters, a recipient of the Louis M. DiCarlo Award for Outstanding Clinical Achievement from the SCSHA, a recipient of the State Clinical Achievement Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Foundation, recognized as an ASHA Innovator in 2023, and ten-time recipient of ASHA’s ACE Award for continuing education.

Carol A. Page is the Director of the South Carolina Assistive Technology Program (SCATP) at the USC School of Medicine, a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Center for Disability Resources, Department of Pediatrics. Carol is also an Adjunct Faculty member for the University of South Carolina Communication Sciences and Disorders and Education departments. She received her PhD degree in speech-language pathology from the University of South Carolina, her assistive technology professional certification from RESNA, and her Brain Injury Specialist certification from the Brain Injury Association of America. Carol provides trainings at a local, state, national and international level on assistive technology for persons with disabilities of all ages, their caregivers and professionals who serve them. She is the 2017 recipient of the Norman J. Arnold Alumni Award from the USC School of Public Health and the 2017 Louis M. DiCarlo Award for Outstanding Clinical Achievement from the SC Speech-Language Hearing Association.
