Course Description

This course will review theories of working memory, focusing on the relationship between working memory and language. Current research on the relationship of working memory and aspects of language development in typical children and children with language impairments will be presented. Working memory assessment measures for children will be discussed and practiced. Finally, clinical implications of working memory in intervention for children with language disorders will be reviewed.

About Presenters

Amy Costanza Smith

PhD, CCC-SLP

Amy Costanza-Smith served as an Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology and the Training Director for the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities program at the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center at Oregon Health and Science University. Her research and clinical area of interest is childhood language disorders with a focus on assessment and family support. She is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Speech & Hearing Sciences at Portland State University.
