This course discusses some of the current research that has been carried out in the treatment of speech sound disorders (SSDs) in children, the roadblocks to effective intervention, and how TikTalk to Me’s digital technology can be used to help overcome these barriers. Participants will also receive a short demo on how to use TikTalk to Me and will learn about the future capacities of TikTalk to Me’s digital technology.

Dr. Kimberly McIvor is a speech-language pathologist (S-LP) who has practiced in both Canada and Bermuda since 2005. She has a keen interest in continually learning and growing in both her professional and personal life, and in exploring the use of technology to enhance evidence-based practice. Through doing cognitive neuroscience research during her undergraduate and master's studies, she gained advanced knowledge and skills in using EEG/event-related brain potentials to study speech and language processing in adults and children. Dr. McIvor graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Neuroscience from Dalhousie University in 2001, a Master of Science (MSc) in Human Communication Disorders (Speech-Language Pathology) from Dalhousie University in 2004, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in French from Dalhousie University/Université de Bourgogne in 2008, and a Clinical Doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology (SLPD) from Northwestern University in 2022. She is currently the Senior Speech-Language Pathologist at APEX Allied Health in Hamilton, Bermuda, and sees children and adults of all ages for assessment and treatment of a variety of speech, language, literacy, voice, and feeding/swallowing delays and disorders.

Beth Douek is a graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Human-Environment Relations (1992) and the University of Texas at Dallas (1998) with a Master of Science (MS) in Speech-Language Pathology. She has been practicing for most of her career as a private pediatric speech-language pathologist (SLP) in Maryland and Washington, DC, and continues to do so.
