In this course, MariBeth shares a wealth of practical AAC information and resources to use with children and adults. She covers details about aided and unaided communication components, specifically how to do an environmental communication assessment (as part of the assessment team), as well as the process to determine an individual’s personal language needs. She explained and recommended resources for no-tech and low-tech tools, as well as static and dynamics devices and several apps. Very comprehensive, very practical and specific, provides a lot of valuable information within a short length of time.

Char Boshart is a speech-language pathologist, author, seminar presenter, and president and co-founder of Speech Dynamics, Inc. She graduated with her Master’s degree from Western Michigan University under the extraordinary tutelage of Dr. Charles Van Riper, the “father” of articulation therapy during the final years of his illustrious career. Char began her career in the public schools in the early 70’s with a caseload of over 110 children. Since then, she has worked many years in the public schools, developed and ran her own private practice, and, for seven years was an Assistant Professor and Department Chair of the Speech Pathology and Audiology Department at Loma Linda University in southern California. Her interest in creating effective therapy techniques has evolved into the development of several practical articulation publications, videos (articulation and language), and articles.

MariBeth Plankers is a Clinical Supervisor and the Facilitator of the Regional Assistive Technology Center at Minnesota State University Moorhead, which is a lending library of Universal Design for Learning and Assistive Technology tools. MariBeth teaches at the clinic and practices Speech-Language Pathology in the areas of autism spectrum disorders, augmentative alternative communications and telepractice. In addition, she volunteers and takes her certified Pet Therapy Pet Partner, Tova to work with her as a social skills support with children's therapy groups.
